Preparing and cooking nutritious meals according to the home’s planned menus
Catering for individual dietary requirements, including allergies, intolerances, diabetic diets, vegetarian/vegan diets and culturally appropriate meals
Preparing texture-modified meals in accordance with residents’ assessed needs and IDDSI guidance, where applicable.
Following residents’ nutritional care plans, including fortified or high-calorie diets when prescribed or recommended.
Maintaining excellent food hygiene standards and following food-safety procedures at all times.
Monitoring food temperatures and accurately completing required temperature records.
Preventing cross-contamination and managing allergens safely.
Ensuring food is stored correctly, including appropriate fridge, freezer and dry-store temperatures.
Checking food dates and stock rotation, using appropriate stock-control procedures.
Ordering food and kitchen supplies while maintaining appropriate stock levels and minimising waste.
Providing appropriate portion sizes while considering residents’ preferences and nutritional requirements.
Ensuring meals are attractively presented, particularly pureed and texture-modified meals.
Communicating with care staff regarding residents who have poor appetites, weight loss, swallowing difficulties or changes in dietary needs.
Reporting concerns regarding residents’ eating or drinking to senior care staff or management.
Obtaining and recording residents’ food preferences and contributing to menu planning.
Providing menu choices and considering resident feedback when developing menus.
Preparing snacks, drinks and fortified foods where required.
Maintaining kitchen cleanliness, including work surfaces, equipment, ovens, fridges, freezers and food-storage areas.
Completing kitchen cleaning schedules and ensuring required tasks are recorded.
Following infection prevention and control procedures and maintaining high standards of personal hygiene.
Managing food waste appropriately and keeping kitchen waste areas clean and safe.
Following COSHH procedures for kitchen cleaning products and chemicals.
Reporting faulty equipment, maintenance issues or food-safety concerns promptly.
Supporting environmental health inspections and ensuring kitchen records are maintained to the required standard.
Working closely with the Manager, Deputy Manager and care team to ensure residents’ nutritional needs are consistently met.
